Prevention of High Blood Pressure

Prevention is not only better than cure but much cheaper too. This is especially true for high blood pressure because it is a life-time disease, once established. High blood pressure and arteriosclerosis do not develop overnight. They progress very gradually. Their seeds are sown right in the childhood. Therefore, their preventive measures, too, should be initiated from the childhood.

The Negative thinking and type A behavior play a key role in the development of high blood pressure, coronary heart disease and cerebral hemorrhage. Therefore, try to correctly mould your child’s mind. Children mostly imitate the nature, the behavior and life style of their parents. If your behavior and nature are sublime, you will set a fine and safe example for your children.

It has been proven again and again that salt is a mineral poison. Yet we use salt recklessly. We shudder even at the thought of eating a salt less diet. And we cultivate its addiction in our children too. Salt caters only to our tongue, not to our health. Those who have not had the opportunity to eat salt in their life, finds its taste totally disagreeable. If you wish to keep high blood pressure at bay, curtail the use of salt yourselves and insist that your children do the same.

Convince your children of the value of regular exercise. If you do exercise regularly, your children will not refuse to do exercises. Exercises keep the heart healthy and prevent obesity. Children imitate their parents’ dietary habits. Always keep this in mind and remain on your alert about what you eat and drink. See that your children do not develop an excessive liking for sugar, jiggery, chocolates, peppermints, cakes, jam, jelly, biscuits, butter and ghee. See to it that your children only eat moderately and do not become fat. Remember that fat children are not healthy.

Bad habits like smoking and drinking are mostly passed on to children by their parents. If you wish that your children do not develop such habits, it is imperative that you, too, do not smoke or drink. If you do not correctly care for your children during their growing years, you shall be responsible for the dreadful diseases they might suffer from later in life.
